Bringing Water from the Rock – Prevailing Faith for the Next Level
Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;
Deuteronomy 8:15 KJV
– Where there was no water.
When you study the story of the children of Israel from the moment of crossing the Red Sea to entering the promise land, they had problems with water three times.
1. The moment they came out of the Red Sea.
They worshipped the Lord; they praised the Lord.
But suddenly, in Exodus 15:22, the bible says They had no water for 3 days. The response of the people shows that they didn’t really believe in God like that.
So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.
And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah.
And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?
Exodus 15:22-24 KJV
After you have given and given and you face challenges, what would be your response?
God tested them, but they failed that test.
2. The journey from the wilderness of Sin.
And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the Lord, and pitched in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.
Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the Lord?
And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?
And Moses cried unto the Lord, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.
And the Lord said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.
Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Exodus 17:1-6 KJV
They tempted the Lord and were complaining.
The difference between Moses and the people – The people cried to Moses, but Moses cried to the Lord.
God began to introduce another dimension here.
Every time they faced the water challenge, God gave them different instructions.
3. The Rock: Christ.
Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.
And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.
And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the Lord!
And why have ye brought up the congregation of the Lord into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?
And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.
And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the Lord appeared unto them.
And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.
Numbers 20:1-8 KJV
6 Things you must not do when you want to bring out water from the rock.
When you want to bring financial testimonies,
1. Don’t look at those who can give it.
Never set your mind on people.
Moses didn’t look at the people. In these 3 places, he looked at God.
Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
Matthew 17:17-18
Look at the example of Jesus Christ here.
The miracle of bringing out water from the rock can only come from God.
When human beings meet your needs, that is a blessing, but only God performs miracles.
As kingdom people, don’t wait for God for a miracle because he has made us miracle workers.
2. Don’t look at your own assets. Don’t look at what you have.
God can do things beyond your mind and assets; let’s look at the miracle of multiplying bread.
And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.
Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.
John 6:6-7 KJV
You’ll be limiting God by looking at your assets; all those assets are seed. Paul said to the Philippians, my God shall supply.
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19
He can use human beings to bring you anything.
3. Don’t look for other options.
You’re going to do a million copies of Healing to The Nations Magazine (HTTN); don’t change it.
Don’t look at other options. Do it.
Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.
Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
John 11:3-5 KJV
Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.
Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.
Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.
As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.
Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.
The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.
Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
John 11:20-32 KJV
And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
John 11:34 KJV
Martha was looking at other options, trying to explain it. Don’t! Don’t settle for less.
Difference between Mary and Martha – Martha ran out. She was too full of activities and not ready for a miracle.
4. Don’t listen to others.
And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.
1 Samuel 17:28 KJV
There is a cause. Don’t walk with people who’ll complain; turn from them.
David turned to his senior brother; his word got to the palace.
PROPHECY: You speak in this place, and your word will get to the palace and place of government; the biggest contract in your city will be waiting for you.
Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.
Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?
Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.
And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.
John 11:39-42 KJV
When you get to your city, anything you call will come out: leaders, members, money, businesses, nations. Nations will run to you.
5. Don’t look at the way things used to be done.
Three times, God gave them water; three strategies. You need a strategy.
Thank God you did it last time, and it worked. You might not need to do it the same way this time.
You might have prayed 3 hours last time, but maybe this time, God just wants you to worship for 10 minutes or even pray for 5 hours.
You might have done over 500,000 Copies of The Rhapsody of Realities last time, but this time, God wants you to do a million copies.
Let’s look at Naaman
But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the Lord his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.
2 Kings 5:11 KJV
He had meditated how it would happen.
Since you know the process, why did you come? You should have done it by yourself.
Let him give you the process.
You must go listen to him.
God doesn’t return yesterday’s blessings for today.
6. Don’t be pressured by time. God is never late.
The story of Lazarus again; they sent for Jesus, but he didn’t come nor show up.
Lazarus died, and 4 days later, Jesus showed up.
What must you do?
1. Have the consciousness of the indwelling of The Holy Spirit.
May He grant you out of the rich treasury of His glory to be strengthened and reinforced with mighty power in the inner man by the [Holy] Spirit [Himself indwelling your innermost being and personality].
Ephesians 3:16 AMPC
– Miracle working ability.
Your focus is inside, not the rock or the challenges; your focus is on being strengthened with might on the inside.
And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and blasphemy; for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.
2 kings 19:3 KJV
You are ready to bring forth the results, but you don’t have the strength; change your focus; be strengthened with might on your inner man!!!
2. Be conscious that you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
3. Use the authority of the word; speak the word!
4. Be conscious of the word of our man of God, Pastor Chris.
That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
2 Peter 3:2 KJV
Be mindful of the command of our man of God and use that word to bring forth water from the rock.
