The Joseph Stand: Consecration in the Face of Temptation

In the high-stakes journey of destiny, there is a moment every leader, believer, and visionary must face. It is not a moment that happens on a stage, behind a pulpit, or in the heat of a public battle. It is a moment that happens in the silence of an “empty house.” It is the moment where opportunity meets secrecy, and where your public potential is weighed against your private reality.

Apostle Michael Orokpo, in his soul-piercing teaching on character, brought me back to the ancient room of Potiphar’s house. Here, we find a young man named Joseph; he was gifted, he was handsome, and he was “successful” even as a slave. But his greatest achievement was not his administrative brilliance; it was his refusal to bow to a secret sin.

The “Joseph Stand” is one of the greatest ultimate audits of the soul. It is the decision to remain consecrated when the only audience is God. And how we must understand that the weight of our glory is supported by the strength of our hidden foundations.

The Structure of the Empty House

The most vulnerable time in a person’s life is not when they are publicly under attack; it is when they are alone. The scripture tells us that Joseph went into the house to do his work, and “none of the men of the house was there within.”

Isolation is the enemy’s favorite place. In the dark, the stakes feel lower, and there the logic of the “Empty House” whispers:

  • “No one will ever find out.”
  • “Everyone else is doing it.”
  • “You have worked hard; you deserve this ‘little’ compromise.”

But Apostle Michael Orokpo tells us that the structure of the Empty House is a setup by the enemy, but you can also see it as the grading room for the palace. If you can not be trusted with your eyes and your heart when no one is watching, you can not be trusted with an empire when everyone is watching. Your Personality is what you display in the marketplace, but your Character is what you do in the corridor when the lights are low.

When Potiphar’s wife grabbed Joseph’s garment and said, “Lie with me,” she was not just offering sex; she was offering a “shortcut.” As the wife of the ruler of a community, space, office, or kingdom, she had the power to make Joseph’s life very easy or very hard. But Joseph’s refusal was a radical act of Consecration

A symbolic representation of Joseph's integrity in Potiphar's house, illustrating the "Character Audit" theme of Value Faith.

Consecration is the state of being set apart for a specific, holy purpose. A consecrated man does not belong to himself; he belongs to the Vision and the Vision-Giver.

Joseph’s logic and refusal were not based on social embarrassment or the fear of Potiphar; his thoughts were towards God: “How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” He realized that integrity is not just a horizontal contract between people; it is very, very much a vertical covenant with the Creator. When you stand for God in the dark, God will stand for you in the light.

The Price of the Anointing: Character as the Container

Apostle Orokpo many times teaches that the “anointing” or the “grace” on a person’s life is a fire. If you have fire but no container, you will burn down the very house you were meant to warm, and to that I say: Character is the container.

Many gifted people have “leaks” in their vessels, and these leaks are secret compromises, small dishonesties, hidden lusts, and private bitterness.

The Leak Effect: You might still be “functional” for a while. You might still write great articles, preach great sermons, or run a successful business.

The Structural Failure: But as the “pressure” of success increases, the leak widens, and eventually, the vessel shatters, and the glory is lost.

The Joseph Stand is about not allowing for any leaks or sealing the leaks if any. It is about realizing that your private devotion is the engine of your public power. You can not carry the weight of glory if your character is living with a secret sin.

Joseph did not just say no once; the Bible says she spoke to him “day after day.” And just like Potiphar’s wife, temptation is often a war of attrition; it tries to wear down your regimen and your resolve. And so we must learn to build the character that says “No” to save our future?

Immediate Flight: Joseph did not stay to argue the theology of adultery. Instead, he fled!!! Because sometimes, the highest form of spiritual warfare is running away from the environment.

Internal Boundaries: You must decide what you will not do before you are in the empty house. If you wait until the moment of temptation to decide your values, you likely have already lost.

Audience of One: Practice living as if God is the only spectator, because He SEES EVERYTHING, ALWAYS! If you would not do it in the presence of your mentor or your congregation, do not do it in the presence of your King.

Why Integrity Preserves Destiny

If Joseph had slept with Potiphar’s wife, he might have become a “privileged slave,” but he would have never become a Prime Minister.

Secret sins are destiny-killers because they create a glass ceiling over your life. You can only go as high as your integrity allows. And why is that? Because God will not promote a man into a position where his character will destroy him.

Joseph went to prison for his integrity, and to the world, it looked like a setback, but in the spirit, it was what led to a promotion. The prison was the final training ground for the palace because Joseph proved he could say “No” to a mistress; God knew he could say “No” to the corruptions of power in Egypt.

To my dearest readers of Value Faith Blog, the message is clear: It is time for a Character Audit.

  • Look at the areas of your life where no one else has access.
  • Look at your search history, your private conversations, and your secret thoughts.
  • Are these areas supporting your public character, or are they undermining it?

We should be building for the long term; we should be building evergreen lives. An evergreen life is one that stays green in every season because its roots are deep in the Secret Place of integrity.

Apostle Michael Orokpo’s life and ministry are a testament to this truth. The fire he carries is not an accident; it is the result of the Joseph Stand taken long ago. He chose the path of consecration, and the results are visible to the world.
